Gunning London delivered a full replacement of the electrical supply to the common parts of five residential blocks in Kensington, alongside passive fire upgrades throughout. Each block presented its own challenge: basements, four occupied floors, and lofts, all needing new infrastructure while residents continued to live in their homes.
The scope covered a new landlords’ distribution board to supply the plant, small power and lighting, along with new mains and sub-mains to the apartments. We installed new metal conduit, wiring and luminaires throughout the landlords’ areas, plus new small power accessories and containment. The domestic fire alarm was re-commissioned, and we provided wiring and containment to FCUs and isolators for the mechanical services, with full testing and commissioning of the completed installation. Fire safety was addressed with compartmentation and fire stopping to walls, floors and ceilings around the electrical risers, and the installation of new fire doors.
Liaising with UKPN to coordinate every electrical changeover took careful planning, particularly with all five blocks occupied throughout the works. Phasing was key to minimising disruption for residents, and close, ongoing liaison with the client, their surveyor and the electrical designer ensured every element of the works was delivered to everyone’s satisfaction.
